Our Philosophy and Methodology

Many states in the USA have a considerable rural population and have learned to deal with problems associated with being remote and removed from "city opportunities." Issues such as a lack of quality teachers and robust content are common. To solve that problem, American educators have relied on online solutions for both teachers and course offerings.

Connecting passionate, caring, and dedicated teachers with students who deserve a first rate education is the long-time dream of our founder. Promise is determined to use technology to bring an excellent, research-based English education to students around the world.

Learning a language can also be a great opportunity to learn new ideas about foreign cultures. Now, we can use technology to learn from each other, exchange ideas across oceans, and build relationships that were once impossible to even imagine. We at Promise are working hard to be a leader in this area of cross-cultural education.

Promise's educational philosophy focuses on engaging students. Promise believes that students learn best when they are active participants in the learning experience. Our students are expected, encouraged, and empowered to use English as much as possible in our classes.

Promise teachers create an immersion language experience for their students in ESL countries; they engage the students to read aloud, listen, speak, think and write in small group sessions in cyber classrooms or virtual classroom. The schools in ESL countries do a fine job teaching students to read and write English. However, we believe that learning a language is more than rote memorization of vocabulary, conversations and conjugations. Promise believes that using our educational software to connect ESL students to our teachers in the USA ensures that our ESL students will learn to listen and speak English in a naturally reinforcing manner.

Our curriculum materials are diverse according to the needs of each class. However, all students begin by reading an engaging text and discussing that text with the teacher. We draw from a variety of written materials including nursery rhymes, folk tales, current events articles, and short novels. This text is supported by our custom made e-learning materials. We believe in the effectiveness of using pictures, personal responses and games and puzzles to fully engage students in the meaning of the text. Our materials give students many opportunities to develop their comprehension of the English language within a meaningful context. In courses designed for younger students you can expect to hear students singing familiar songs, enjoying simple stories, exploring rhymes and sounds of English while the teacher uses many scaffolding strategies in order to provide them with a smooth introduction to a complicated language.

For higher level English students, Promise Cyber School makes use of a method of instruction developed by the Great Books Foundation and adapted for use with ELLs (English Language Learners). The Great Books curriculum features more complex texts with an emphasis on engaging students in interpretive discussion. Guided by a trained leader, students learn to use Shared Inquiry to develop and share their ideas about a challenging text. The goal is to refine each student's individual understanding of an author's work through dialogue and writing. In the process, students develop their listening and speaking skills while improving their reading. Click Here to view the experiment results by the Great Books Foundation. Our students gain a true grasp of the English language along with a love for learning with our fun and engaging online contents and the support of our dedicated teachers.
